Myth

You need to use SuperMemo every day

Fact

If you stop using SuperMemo for a while, your average knowledge retention will drop. For a long-term user, a break of a few days is hardly noticeable. It will only affect new material. Retrievability of old material drops very slowly

Origin

  • Before the introduction of concepts such as Postpone or priority queue, users were advised to use SuperMemo daily. This is more for psychological than practical reasons. Most of drop outs begin with short breaks that keep getting longer.
  • Some implementations of spaced repetition penalize users for missing repetitions.

Remedy

Read about incremental reading.
