Myth

Teens hate everything. This unhappy nature is just a stage in life

Fact

This fatalistic myth can instantly be abolished by talking to the nearest teenager. However, it is still very popular among teachers, and moms of teenagers. It is a clear case for a communication breakdown between generations. Only a fraction of teens have been broken down to a degree that the entire world seems dark. In those cases, we may end up with depression or addictions. The myth of teens hating everything can conveniently be used to tolerate the perpetual state of unhappiness in one's own child or in one's own students. It is a darker variant of another myth: Myth: Rebellion against authority is a natural stage of teen development. Both myths are a byproduct of a system in which freedoms for teenagers are inconvenient for the adult world
