Neuroticism is a personality characteristic that makes one experience negative emotions such as anxiety, fear, and mood swings, along with heightened emotional reactivity to stress. Coercive schooling conditions anxiety in the face of complexity (see: 100 bad habits learned at school). Popularly thought as a genetic trait, neuroticism can easily be induced. Trauma, child abuse, authoritative parenting and coercive schooling are prime breeding grounds for neuroticism in childhood.
